One of my favorite parts of the newspaper is reading the letters to the editor. You can always count on at least one letter to be filled with so much stupidity to incite “buh-wha?”.
Today’s “winner” for stupid letter to the editor is from The St. Pete Times. Beth Harmon of Holiday says
Split the winnings
Spending $3 on a lottery ticket isn’t going to help many people and won’t help the economy of Florida.
The recent $37-million jackpot would have helped Floridians more is 37 sets of numbers were drawn to give 37 people $1-million each. That makes more sense and would help to prevent more house foreclosures.
So much fail in such a compact space. You would think it would collapse in on itself and create a vortex of wrong.
THE LOTTERY IS A FORM OF GAMBLING. It isn’t a government charity. It isn’t meant to help people out of debt. If you are buying Lotto tickets as part of your long term financial plan then you are doing it wrong.
Of course, if you’re the type of person who got yourself into a mortgage you can’t afford then maybe you do think the lottery is a financial investment. Maybe that’s the problem. All these people signed up for ARM’s thinking they would hit the jackpot before they adjusted up.
In any case, our congratulations go out to Beth Harmon of Holiday for taking the time to write into the newspaper with the stupidest point I’ve ever seen. By making us all feel better about ourselves you’ve served an important public service.
